Entry 4 : Presentation on 20th century events

What my group presented in class today about 20th century events conveyed the same findings. Since Sigmund Freud went through WWI in his lifetime, his views on human changed and he began to think that humans are violent and cruel. Wars gave evidence of violence as well as our death wish. Without the war, I think Freud would not have viewed humans in this way.

I agree with you that Wars and many other violent events had great impact on Freud's ideas and his view on human nature.

I agree--our death wish motivates us to act in a certain way, and that humans are naturally violent, and although we try to act rationally, it isn't possible to avoid this completely.

I agree that Freud is heavily infuenced by the society around him. I think Freud might say people are born angels if WWI didn't existed.

Very straight-forward. I agree too that WWI affected Freud's ideas. Wars tend to cause a lot of mental problems to soldiers.

WWI, the war that's called as the deadliest of all the wars in history, with the death statistics higher than all the death in all the wars in history combined, the event so strong, so powerful like this of course have an impact on Freud's view of people. With the chemical warfare and the trench warfare, science turns into killing machine, ruthless and deadly. I wonder what he will comment, whether his viewpoint will change even more negatively if he lived through WWII, which is the massacre. Piles of dead Jewish are found after the war ended, revealing the ruthlessness of human. I can bet that his viewpoint will be even more negative if he got to that point, the end of WWII. Very nice summary. ^^

Yes, WWI inspired him to come up with theories of death wish, and believeing that people are evil. Nice summary. Short and effective.
